Website Question!?

Okay! Can you help me to get to where I wanna go?? I want to create a website full of different information, blah blah blah. But I want to be able to have advertisements on there that I can make money off of. I am not computer literate so you really need to spell things out for me. What type of yahoo web thingy do I need in order to do this, or any other company for that matter. I'm not looking to spend a fortune but looking to gain one..... Any help is appreciated!! I checked into web hosting at yahoo but I think it was for a small business. The page is not for a small business but rather personal ... kinda ... but the geocities is not for me. I don't think you can add ads to free websites.... so I've read... HELP!!
